We offer support for registered international students throughout Semesters 1 and 2 each year in the form of weekly workshops and individual academic consultations. There is no cost to students for these.
The workshops are held at the Coleraine, Jordanstown and Magee campuses at varying times and on various weekdays between 09.15 – 18.05. Students enrol for these in week two of the semesters.
Recent workshops include:
• Academic vocabulary and the Academic Word List (AWL)
• Academic writing
• Accuracy in English
• Cultural awareness
• Research and extended writing skills
• Listening and note-taking
• News and current affairs
• Presentation skills
• Referencing and techniques for avoiding plagiarism
• Using academic English
Workshops may vary from semester to semester and/or from year to year.
The individual academic consultations are by appointment only, and students may apply for a maximum of three per semester via the International Office. Students must be attending one or more workshops to qualify for an appointment.
There is information on the workshops at the formal Orientation programmes in week one of Semesters 1 and 2, and full details of the enrolment process, the workshops and the Academic consultations process are published in the Workshop handbook. This is updated each semester and is available on the CELT Web/CT site and in hard copy (for reference) for registered students.
