Entry requirements

1. an offer of degree study from the University of Ulster.

2. a minimum of IELTS 5.5 with no band less than 5.0 or another English language qualification accepted by the University of Ulster.  Information on these is available on request.

Who must attend?

Students who have an offer of degree study from the University and who have an IELTS score of 5.5 with no band less than 5.0 or equivalent will be requested to attend by email.

Some faculties of the University also require students who have met the entry requirements to attend.

Who may also attend?

Ulster provides a Transitional Study Skills and Cultural Orientation Module for those students with IELTS 6.0, with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent with an offer for direct entry to degree programmes.

Others who may attend

Some faculties of the University require higher IELTS scores.  For example, Nursing requires IELTS 7.0 in all four bands.

Students who need these higher scores may also attend.

However, the Pre-sessional programme only tests to the equivalent of IELTS 6.0.

Therefore, these students will have to make private appointments to take an IELTS or TOEFL test.  The demand for these is high, and you should apply early to get a place before the Pre-sessional course begins.

The test should be before the end of August.  Results usually take two weeks, and must be available in time for enrolment on your degree programme.

Please note: the University of Ulster is not an IELTS/TOEFL test centre.
